Search Vermont Senior Care

153 pages: care services, 138 licensed facilities, town and county guides, Vermont cost data and 40 practical articles. Type a town, a county, a facility name or a plain question, and the results group themselves by kind of page.

What a search here can and cannot find

Type a town, a county, a facility name or a plain question such as who pays for a nursing home. Results come from three kinds of page: guides that explain a decision, town and county pages that say who serves a place, and one page for each licensed residential care home, assisted living residence or nursing home in the state directory.

A facility name finds its directory page only when that page holds researched detail. Very small homes are listed on their county and town pages instead of on a page of their own, so searching for one of them by name may land on the county guide that names it.

Searches that families run first

Households that start with a hospital discharge usually search for post-hospital care, then for the difference between home health and home care. Households that start with a worry about memory search for memory care and for the licence a memory unit needs. Households that start with money search for Choices for Care, Medicaid, and what a month of residential care costs where they live.

If a search returns nothing, try the town's county, since many services are organised by county rather than by town. Try the plain name of the service, such as adult day, rather than a brand name, and try a neighbouring town when a small village has no page of its own.

When a search is the wrong tool

A search cannot tell you whether a specific room is open, what a home charges this month, or whether an agency can staff a particular address. Those answers come from the provider in writing. The care request form on this site sends one short request to participating providers so a family does not have to repeat the same story to each of them.
